The Weddell Sea is one of the most remote and harsh environments anywhere on the planet. Yet Carl Elkington, Nic Burden, and their team from White Desert joined the Endurance22 Expedition with the intention of setting up ice camps directly on the ice, so that sub-sea team members could work, eat and sleep on the frozen sea for as long as two weeks. How can humans survive on the ice, away from the support of the S.A. Agulhas II? What essential gear makes it possible to set up an ice camp above the sink site of Shackleton’s Endurance? Let’s ask Carl and Nic!
